I have been going through the cycles of treatment. I feel good Saturday and Sunday (no infusions those days), get knocked out on Monday (body says - what the $%^&) and try to recover a bit on Tuesday. Weds. through Friday I get into a groove of: treatment, drive home, eat, sleep 2 -3 hours and then try to stay up until 9 or so. Fridays, Home Care Solutions changes my PICC line bandage and Saturday and Sunday, Wallace flushes my lumens.
I started at 20 million units of the interferon. We stayed at this level for two weeks. Then, my liver showed signs of struggle. So, the third week we ratcheted down to 15 million units. Today, my liver is still struggling, but we are staying at 15 million. My thyroid is okay. My white cell count is low (800) but not risky low (500). I can still go out in public, but use hand sanitizer relentlessly.
Last weekend, I had a mini workout on the treadmill. I spent an hour at a 3.5 mph pace and really enjoyed pumping my system up. I am having a little difficulty with my new high-compression hosiery. It seems to trigger an old pinched nerve injury in my toe. I will have to work this all through with my physical therapist. Speaking of whom, I have been avoiding calling to set up my appointments with her because I can barely function. I guess next week I must bite this bullet.
FRIDAY IS THE DAY! My last treatment. My PICC line comes out. I can't wait!! The Kayaks are clean and ready (thanks Julia) and my neighbors invited us over to their pool. Time to enjoy my summer a bit.
I begin self injections on August 9th. These are at the 10 million dose level and 3 times a week. This should be "do-able".
Peace to you all! - Greta
